We all have a responsibility to care and protect our environment, wildlife within that environment, all users of that environment and our sport / hobby.

Simple things we can do whilst enjoying are sport / hobby:

  • Take your rubbish home.
  • Take other peoples rubbish home.
  • Just take a couple of minutes to consider how your actions will effect the environment and others within that environment.
  • Be aware, if you fish a place regularly you will know when something not right, so report it (EA numbers on your licience).
  • Carry bailiffs and landowners contact numbers with you, if applicable.
  • Often anglers are the first to spot a problem, so act don't leave it to someone else it maybe to late by then.
  • If you found yourself in a dangerous situation, tell others so they can avoid doing the same.

From a fishing point of view

  • If you need to put a fish on the bank always use a mat.
  • Dont keep fish out of water any longer than is absolutely necessary.
  • Always abide by the fishery rules, they are there for a reason (the owner has invested a lot of money in the fishery and they are only looking after that investment, as we all would)
  • Use a sling or landing net to carry fish back to the water.
  • If you are not sure how to prepare particle baits don't, use them only when you are confident you have prepared them correctly, incorrectly prepared particles will kill fish.

There are many who wish to ban are sport/hobby so don't be complacent, if we stave the fire of fuel the pot may just continue to simmer and not boil over. Education is one of our most valuable tools, with it we can ensure that new anglers treat the environment and everything in it with the care and respect it deserves, show non anglers that we care passionately for our fish and the environment as a whole and above all, if we do all this we will have the ammunition to backup our claims that we not only care, we actively protect and nurture our fragile environment and everything it.

Fishing is not always about catching the biggest fish, its about being there, doing it, using your skill and knowledge to catch a fish.

Dont get me wrong i like to catch big fish, but if mother nature decides that today's not the day, there is always tomorrow.

If we lose the right to choose to fish, we may only have ourselves to blame.
